Falling In Love All Over Again

Fashion Obsession > Last year when it was announced that The Met would hold an exhibit for Alexander McQueen, titled Savage Beauty, I immediately booked a trip to New York knowing that this would be something I would forever regret if I missed. The average 'walk-thru' time was 1 hour and 45 minutes. Prohibited from taking pictures, I spent 3 and a half hours in the exhibit. Obsessed with love and constantly engulfed in tragedy, as an explorer, student, lover and purveyor of fashion, I have always been and will continue to be drawn to and inspired by Alexander McQueen, his work, his life, and what he has left behind.

It has been over two years since his tragic departure, but with 4 seasons at the helm, Alexander McQueen Creative Director Sarah Burton seems to have found her footing as she made very clear this week at the Paris presentation. The colors began with ivories and feather greys, leading you through to powder pinks exploding into florals and culminating with fuchsias and ink black. It is easy to see Burton wanted to convey a feeling of optimistic romanticism. Using embellishments worked into the fabric, organic floral shapes and ostrich feathers billowing on the stage, she solidified this feeling throughout the collection down to the final piece.

Although it is easy to get lost in the beauty of this collection, as you transcend into a love story full of silhouettes and cherry blossoms, you can still feel the tragic pull ever aware in McQueen's shows. To me this is what makes this collection a statement for Burton. She gives a glimpse of the future without forgetting what everyone knows..
